You have seen the ads. Junk removal, $99. Meanwhile our published minimum is $175, and we are the ones with 1,531 five-star reviews. Something in that picture needs explaining, so let us explain it, including the part where the $99 ad is sometimes legitimate.
What $99 usually buys
A $99 junk removal offer is almost always a single-item or micro-volume price: one couch, one appliance, one small curbside pile, usually with conditions attached. Ground floor. Curbside or garage, already outside. Within a tight radius. Certain items excluded. Read the fine print on any $99 offer and you will generally find some version of these limits, because the alternative is a company that loses money on every job.
That version of $99 is fine. If you have one recliner sitting in a carport and someone hauls it for $99, you got what the ad said.
The version to watch is the $99 that grows. The truck arrives, the crew looks at your pile, and the quote becomes $99 for the first item plus a fee schedule you never saw: fuel charge, disposal charge, stairs charge, heavy charge. The ad price was bait, the driveway price is the real price, and by then the truck is already there and your Saturday is already committed. People fall for this on schedule, which is why the ad keeps running.
Why an honest minimum lands around $175
Walk through what the cheapest possible junk removal visit costs the company. Two crew members drive a real truck to your address, load, drive to a transfer station or recycling center, unload, and pay the facility by weight to accept the material. Fuel, insurance, wages, disposal fees, all spent before a dollar of profit. Our truck is a 12 by 8 by 5 foot, 18 cubic yard dump truck, and it does not roll out of the yard free.
Our $175 minimum is that arithmetic stated in public. It covers the visit, the crew, the hauling, and the disposal, with no fee ambush waiting in the driveway. Mattresses $20. Tires $20. Stairs $50 a flight. You can price your own job from your couch, which is precisely what a bait ad is designed to prevent.
How to test any $99 offer in one phone call
Ask three questions before booking:
- "What exactly is included at $99?" Get the item count, the location conditions, and the radius.
- "What would my actual pile cost?" Describe everything honestly, including the stairs and the paint cans. Get a total, not a starting point.
- "Is that the final number if nothing changes?" An honest company says yes. A bait operation starts qualifying.
If the answers hold, take the deal without guilt. A real $99 single-item haul is a good buy, and we would rather you get a fair price from someone else than an unfair one from anybody.
